On 4th, May, right in the May Gold Week, the first competition of 2007 Jinhong Junior Hero Golf Tournament started. The weather is very good in Beijing, the wind is mild, and the sun is bright. At 8:00 on such a beautiful morning, 28 qualified competitors arrived at the Orient Double Eagle Golf Club one after another. After brief practice, little players began their official competitions.
According to the customary rule of dividing group for young competitors, this competition had four groups with players of different ages. Competitors of group A and B started from the white platform, but seemed to be hard to get well with the course. Ou Zhi jun, a boy of group A who were from Shenzhen, met a double bogey in his second hole after the great effort to keep regulation in the first hole. He said,“I’m still hard to adapt to the green, the green of these two holes is in easy flights, but full of lurking lines. I hope I can get with it as soon as possible. Everything will be better as the feeling of playing”, showing his Unsatisfied to the appearance of double bogey. Li Xin yang from Shenzhen was troubled by the same problem, he met a double bogey in his first hole at the very beginning, adding some difficulty in taking the crown.
Girls in group B performed smoothly. Playing for safety, most of them took the tactics of getting to the green with three strokes——assuring 2 strokes, striving for 1 stroke. Yu Xin yan, the girl who is quite promising to become the champion, said,“The fairway is very long, so I’d better not play recklessly. And I made a strategy for today’s competition when practicing here yesterday.” Obviously, she was pleased with her competitive condition.
The number of competitors in group C was the biggest, and the competition there was the most fierce. Group C was full of topnotch young players such as Dou Ze cheng, Zhang Chuang hua, Wang Zi yi, Li Yuan yuan, and so on. They all kept good scores in various competitions over the whole country. As it is a rare chance for them to play in such a long links, they were ready to experience the ordeal on physical quality and endurance. Dou Ze cheng was appeared to be satisfied with his performance in the out course——he just used 40 strokes. Then at the very beginning of the back side, a birdie was caught, which strengthened his self-confidence and his momentum to win was getting higher and higher.
The average age of competitors in group D was only 6.5 years old, which had led to Jinhong Organizing Committee’s worry: was the 6000-yard links an over-harsh demand to these little players? However, in order to temper them through the game, the committee decided not to add special platform for each hole. But finally, the result came as a big surprise——instead of fearing the very long fairway, a kind of desire with challenge roared deep in their hearts. After seeing the competition for some time, the king of long shot Ma Ning said,“players in group D all have good basic skills, each swing of them could be made in rhyme. So they won’t do bad in this long links, while they’ll cherish every chance of swing. I believe they’ll have excellent achievements beyond our expectation!”
After the nearly five-hours’ grueling competition, Li Xin yang took the crown of group A with a gross of 76. The champion of group B went to Yu Xin yan£¬who lived up to expectation with tatal 88. Dou Ze cheng defended his coronet of group C successfully with an outstanding score of 78. And group D was a big surprise. Led by winner Hu Dian dian, whose final score was 90, competitors of group D all had wonderful performance——three of them made their strokes within 100, and the average score of the whole group was 102, which was far better than the predicted 120.
